In the Cafe, tea parties are a little different.
Our tea parties are a potluck, and everyone brings their own tea! Except instead of tea, we're making website templates to share with everyone, including you! These free code snippets, also called layouts or themes, are meant to be available for anyone to use, especially folks who are learning how to code their own personal website.
The theme, of course, for the 32-Bit Cafe's first Tea Party is coffee and tea! Make a template that evokes the vibe, feeling, reminder, colors, style, and/or inspiration of tea and/or coffee. Name your template after a flavor, type of beverage, temperature — anything that's related to those beverages!
The submission form will open on April 27, and you will have until May 11, 2025 11:59 p.m. local time to submit your layout.
Talk with other Cafe regulars and visitors during your coding sessions while you build your templates: body-double in our Discord server or Discourse chat, or post in the event thread on the forum! Post on the Fediverse using the hashtag #FreeTemplateTeaParty, if you're so inclined.
Any questions?
So, what's actually happening?
Our potluck is a type of code jam that the Cafe organizes throughout the year! Code layouts with a shared theme, during the same time as the rest of us, and share all of our work together. If you like deadlines and sharing your work with others, you'll like this web event.
The submission form will open on April 27, and you will be able to submit your template code then. We discourage folks from submitting premade or previously coded templates in the spirit of doing a challenging activity as a group!
Can I do my layout like ...?
You can make your template however you want! No restrictions on size, images, etc. Keep in mind, however, that you might want your layout to last longer than whatever image service you host images on.
What if I'm not a big fan of tea or coffee?
Any beverage that might exist in a coffee shop honestly would do. Hell, bubble tea could even be a fun template!
If I miss the deadline, can I still submit?
This is meant to be fun! Don't stress too much, and send in your submission if the form is still up. If it's not, email xandra[at]32-bit.cafe.
Who can submit a template?
Anyone! You, perhaps! You don't have to formally join anything. You'll just submit your layout in the submission form with a link to your personal website (no commercial websites, please).
How many themes can I submit?
You can submit as many layouts as you'd like! Just be sure to submit a form for every one.
